Tanya's lifelong passion for style and design clearly manifests itself in her work! As principal of Ottawa interior design and decorating firm, Tanya Collins Interior Design (Inc.), Tanya has developed a reputation for her vision in maximizing function, flow, and light and her flair for blending classic sophistication with modern simplicity. Her detailed eye for creating architectural vignettes, dramatic focal points, and clean sight lines, and for juxtaposing materials, textures, colours, shapes, and furniture styles, sets her apart!
From a large scale project to an hourly design consultation, Tanya enjoys the challenge each new client brings and applies the same level of enthusiasm and energy, offering as many tips and sources, no matter the budget. She is fortunate to have an extensive portfolio that includes some of Ottawa's most prominent families and is the interior designer of the 2018 Minto Dream Home for the CHEO Dream of a Lifetime Lottery located in Potter's Key, Stittsville. Her collaborative and intuitive approach offers a client a more evolved, luxurious, and personalized interior, making the process and the end result very rewarding and spectacular!
Her maternal grandfather has been a major influence on her design career. Jaroslav Hasek embraced modernism, commissioning functionalist architect, Heinrich Lauterbach to design the first flat roofed dwelling in the Czech Republic, the Hasek villa, in 1931 after being captivated by the exposition in Breslau in 1929. Tanya has a similar penchant for making a bold and dramatic statement, often preferring to break the rules and set the trends, when given the liberty by her clients.
Tanya is frequently seen on live television, in print, on the web, and at industry shows and events as an Ottawa design expert and tastemaker. Highlights include contributing to CTV Ottawa Morning Live, appearing on the cover twice for Ottawa Life Magazine most notably for their 1st Spaces Issue as "Ottawa's Top Designer", presenting on the main stages of the Ottawa Home and Garden Show, the Ottawa Home and Design Show, and the Ottawa Fall Home Show, hosting at the Lowes Grand Opening in Nepean, as well as being featured by HGTV Remodels, Ottawa Style Magazine and The Ottawa Citizen to name a few. Other than donating to many causes and charities, she is a strong supporter of her community, spearheading the first Old Ottawa South Home Tour as a fundraiser for the Firehall Community Center.
Tanya continues to be inspired by the beauty all around her, whether in nature or in art as seen in the details - color, light, form and texture. She is thankful for all of her clients, especially those in which friendships have developed. By sharing her expertise, she hopes others enjoy a greater quality of life within their interiors.
