Tanya's passion for style and design clearly manifests itself in her work! As the creative force behind Ottawa interior design studio, Tanya Collins Design Inc., founded in 2006, Tanya is known for her vision in maximizing function, flow, and light and her flair for blending classic sophistication with modern simplicity. Whether designing a home's interior layout and architecture, creating dramatic focal points and clean sight lines, bespoke millwork and interior and exterior color palettes, or juxtaposing materials, textures, shapes, and furniture styles, her detailed eye sets her apart!
From a large scale project to an hourly design consultation, Tanya enjoys the challenge each new client brings and applies the same level of enthusiasm and energy, offering as many tips and sources, no matter the budget. She is fortunate to have an extensive residential portfolio that includes some of Ottawa's most prominent families and is the designer of the Minto Grand Prize Dream Home for the CHEO Dream of a Lifetime Lottery. Guided by collaboration and intuition, Tanya's work does not conform to one specific style rather is tailored to a client's preferences and lifestyle while respecting the home's architecture and location. This approach ensures a more evolved, luxurious, and personalized interior, making the process and end result rewarding and spectacular!
Her maternal grandfather, Jaroslav Hasek has had a major influence on her design career. Not only was he an exporter of the famous glass beads and jewellery he manufactured in Jablonec nad Nisou, Jaroslav Hasek embraced modernism after being captivated by the exposition in Breslau in 1929. It was not long after, that he commissioned functionalist architect, Heinrich Lauterbach to design the Hasek Villa in 1931, the first flat roofed dwelling in the Czech Republic. It is regarded even today by scholars as one of the most beautiful efforts in the aerodynamic Functionalism of the Breslau school and is a registered national Czech landmark. Like her grandfather, Tanya too has a desire to make a bold and dramatic statement, often preferring to break the rules, when given the liberty by her clients.
Tanya is frequently seen on live television, in print, on the web, and at industry shows and events as an Ottawa design expert and tastemaker. Highlights include contributing to CTV Ottawa Morning Live, being the Homes Editor for Ottawa Life Magazine and appearing on the cover twice most notably for their 1st Spaces Issue as "Ottawa's Top Designer". She has recently been named a finalist in the National Awards of Housing Excellence by the Canadian Home Builder's Association for her work on the Bohemiam and is a multi-award winning designer through the Greater Ottawa Home Builder's Association and the National Kitchen and Bath Association of Ottawa.
Tanya continues to be inspired by the beauty all around her, whether in nature or in art as seen in the details - color, light, form and texture. She is thankful for all of her clients, especially those in which long-lasting friendships have developed. By sharing her expertise, she hopes her clients enjoy a greater quality of life within their interiors.
